What changes in a series circuit?

A 6 V source is connected to a 3 ohm resistor. Ohm’s law gives 2 A. Follow the circuit’s single path.

Two 3 ohm resistors are in series. Total resistance is 6 ohms and current is 1 A. The same current flows through both.

Open the switch. The path is broken and steady current is zero throughout the circuit.

For adults · discuss together

Ideal constant-voltage source; wire resistance is ignored. Dots symbolise current.

Before experience

Ask: “What do you think will happen?” Let the child check his guess first.
